Cooking Up Consistency

Dear Market Flow Trader Family,

Are you a recipe person, or do you just “wing it?” As the first-born of two very process-oriented parents, it is no surprise that I prefer structure. I cook angel hair pasta for 4 minutes at a rolling boil. It’s the same every time. Some people (not mentioning anyone I live with) prefer to pull a strand out of the pot every thirty seconds and toss it against the wall to see if it sticks. Ultimately, both methods yield very similar results. But when learning to trade, creating and following a recipe is the only way to go.

Pasta Throwers are often very successful in this world. They are passionate. They take chances and are known for their can-do attitudes and tireless work ethic. You want a Pasta Thrower on your team. Patrick is a Pasta thrower, as are Kevin and Reven. They will tell you they spent too long chasing everything while looking for that special thing. They will tell you that even after finding that special thing, they spent too much time overthinking that thing or trying to improve that thing. Their greatest struggle was being obedient to that thing.

"Focus on the process and results will follow."  ~John Madden

In microbiology, I get contracted to write/update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for labs that’ve been "winging it” for too long. The analytics/data show these labs have inferior patient outcomes to labs already adhering to current Best Practices. Those Best Practices are constantly evolving as contributions from tens of thousands of labs are analyzed. No lab is an island. Collaboration benefits the entire field.

We have that collaboration within the Market Flow Trader Community, too. We have seasoned Pasta Throwers (by nature) who have become Recipe Followers (by process) because they have learned to be obedient to the data. Your ego lies to you, but the math never does, right? Following best practices over a sample size yields the best outcomes. Get out of your own way!

Consistency Accelerator Coach, Taylor Stockwell, shared a video this week, where he and one of his students work on a plan for scaling trades. Where else can you learn this stuff one-on-one? Where else do seasoned traders share these recipes so generously?

Sage, at the Live Trading Desk last week, recognized the narrowing daily range, and led us to trade our Market Flow setups within the Keltner Channels. Have you even heard of those? It was tight, but we still saw a lot of green. That’s next-level stuff-  the kind of stuff he learned the hard way, but we don’t have to. Community. Mentorship.

"I’ve been “trading” for almost 8 years (unprofitably). It took me about 7 months to find my edge after joining the community. Then I passed the combine in 37 days. For those of you who really want to be a trader, then you’re in the right place. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. But I found a lot of helpful support in this community, and I just want to send a big THANK YOU to everyone who’s supported me along the way."   ~RS MFT Member, 1 year.

Keep an eye on the Special Events Tab in the MFT Community Section. In addition to being able to replay previous events, you’ll see that Patrick and Taylor have scheduled Thursday afternoons for Members-Only Q&A presentations to help you get the most out of the community. Thanks to the 100+ members who took the time to join the stream. I love seeing you in there, investing in yourselves!

"If you can’t describe what you’re doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing. ~W. Edwards Deming, Economist

No matter how you’re wired, your success depends on developing an EDGE. You have to find YOUR special thing. Having the MFT setups at your fingertips provides a huge advantage over others. But the confidence to execute those setups grows in direct proportion to the amount of data you collect in simulation. Four minutes at a rolling boil - perfect every time.

Find your thing. Be obedient to that thing. That is very simple advice, but the path to success is anything but simple. There is introspection. There are gut checks. Patrick out-lasted seven years of challenges to build this amazing community where the combination of content and support is unlike anyplace else. Join us tomorrow at the Live Trading Desk. We’ll draw our lines and build our action plan. We may even exchange recipes.

To Your Success,

SherylTrades
